It has been a busy weekend for us, Derouin's! On Saturday, I invited a few closed friends of ours to celebrate Steve's 40th @
Sapporo's in Scottsdale! It's one of our all time favorite restaurant. His birthday really isn't until the 13th of July but we'll be leaving for Maui around that week so I wanted to make sure that we acknowledge him turning the BIG 4-0! I wanted to do something big but I also know that Steve isn't keen on having so many people come in our house and make a big hoopla. He's the intimate guy and I'm all about the party! I wanted to make sure that this birthday is all about him...so I thought, why not Sapporo's. Before we had our girls, we used to dine there every other month and since we've had Callie, we haven't been once! I ordered a delicious cake from
Cassy's Cake. And boy, did she do an awesome job! I had her make a Star Wars theme cake w/ Darth Vader on and with our wedding cake flavor! I wasn't sure what it was going to look like since her cakes aren't the every day type of cake. Most of her cakes are very original...and just creative! I was very much looking forward to seeing her cakes. When Steve saw the cake, he was very tickled! At first, he wasn't sure what was on the cake (I think the Petron fogged his view a little bit). He thought it was some Japanese writing wishing him a Happy Birthday! It took him a few seconds...or more to realize that it was a Star Wars Cake...and it was the face of Darth Vader!!! And the flavor, I had her make from our wedding - marbled cake w/ cream cheese & raspberry puree turned out really yummy!

Cassy did a phenomenal job - she definitely topped our evening!!!

Sunday, Steve and I worked really hard together to get our house in order. We were hosting a small BBQ to celebrate the holiday and also Callie turning 1. Her birthday isn't until the 8th of July but I wanted to combine them together since I wasn't going to do something big for Callie's birthday. Again, I had a cake made by
Cassy's Cake. I thought it would be ideal to have a "4th of July ladybug" theme. Callie is our lil' ladybug...buggy for short and we are celebrating the 4th, also...our independence day! I just about died when I saw this cake.

I am forever her biggest fan!!! She seriously has outdone herself. Our friends were gushing about the job that she did. Not only did her cakes looked awesome, they tasted scrumscious too. Our night ended with 30 minutes of fireworks that you can see from our backyard (my favorite time living in Maricopa because I don't have to fight the crowds to watch the fireworks). An awesome way to end the evening!

Now, we are just resting and enjoying Monday as a family. Here's our
Photos from this weekend...hope everyone enjoyed their 4th!!!
A genuine thanks to all men and women out there who have served or are currently serving our country. Big hugs to you all and Happy Independence Day!
